Carrier Bike

Carrier Bike, originally uploaded by tilak.dutta.

This was one of the other displays at the "design for the other 90%" exhibit. This one isn't that much of an innovation in my opinion. I saw bikes piled with waaaaay more than this on my last trip to India.

Teh-cum-see?

Biking back to the lab., originally uploaded by tilak.dutta.

I took this picture biking back downtown from the west end in the evening. I'm at King and Tecumseth I think. Why is it pronounced "Teh-cum-see"?

Life Straw

Life Straw, originally uploaded by tilak.dutta.

I saw this at an exhibit at OCAD called "Designing for the other 90%". Apparently most products today are designed for the rich 10% of the worlds population. This life straw is an example of a device designed for the other 90%.

Is it wrong that I want one for canoe trips?

Horse Hitch

Horse Hitch, originally uploaded by tilak.dutta.

At Tonya's Late Grandfather's home in St. Jacobs. Old order Mennonites would come by with their horse and buggies so he had to have a horse hitch at the end of his driveway.

Cold

Dry ice, originally uploaded by tilak.dutta.

It's 10am and -21 outside (-29 with wind chill). I biked to work today. I was bundled up with goggles and even a scarf. Anything below -20 deserves a scarf or "muffler" as my parents say. The picture is from last week when Tonya brought home some dry ice from the lab. The temperature of dry ice is -78.5 according to wikipedia.

Tonya made a snow angel...

Best Christmas decoration ever

We saw this in CopperCliff during the holidays. For those who have not been to Sudbury, this is a replica of the Big Nickel - one of the must-see attractions in Sudbury, Ontario. Here's Weird Al giving us a tour of the real thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xxJnmksKn4

Seagrams

Seagram, originally uploaded by tilak.dutta.

We walked by this building on New Year's Eve after we chickened out. It got cold in Waterloo. We decided to go back to Tonya's place and watch the countdown on TV.

We went skating at Nathan Philips square a while back and saw this guy feeding the birds. Some would eat right out of his hand.
